Innovative Procedures to Enhance Vaginal Function and Size

Dr. Kevin Galstyan is a leading Vaginoplasty and Labiaplasty surgeon in Los Angeles and an expert in many gynecologic procedures such as hysterectomy, surgeries for pelvic organ prolapse, and minimally invasive procedures like laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.

Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty, also known as anterior-posterior repair or colporrhaphy, is a procedure in which the loose walls of the vagina are cut, extra tisue is removed, the edges are brought back together with suture which lifts and tightens the vagina. As a board-certified OB/GYN professional, Dr. Kevin Galstyan performs some of the most innovative surgeries in Los Angeles.

Women who have experienced several vaginal births, vaginal trauma, or other causes for lax tissues such as extreme weight loss or smoking, may benefit from vaginoplasty. Through the aging process, childbirth, trauma, and weight-loss, the muscles and supporting tissue in the vagina become too relaxed and may droop. Sometimes, there are symptoms such as pressure, bulge, leakage of urine, or trouble with bowel movements.

There are both surgical and non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation procedures available. The non-surgical methods in making the vagina more supported and narrow are not as effective as surgical repairs. The change in caliber offered through vaginoplasty will enhance sensation felt during sexual intercourse for both the woman and her partner.

Dr. Galstyan can offer sensitive advice to those who are dissatisfied with the function, look or size of their vaginal area. Most women recover from surgery in a few weeks but it depends on the degree of repair needed.

Perineoplasty

The perineum is the area between the rectum and the vagina that can often suffer trauma during childbirth from stretching, lacerations or episiotomies. Surgical reconstruction of the perineum involves the removal of tissue that is loose or malformed. Restorative surgery to repair and tighten the perineum and vagina will eradicate vaginal leakage of gas, restore sexual pleasure, and can decrease discomfort.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a popular option for many women when the look, function, or size of their labia, primarily the inner labia (called minora), is unsatisfactory. An enlarged labia can cause pain during sex, walking or exercise.

Excess labial tissue can become chafed from excess heat and friction. This can lead to extra moisture, itching, pain, and burning.  Pregnancy and childbirth cause weight gain and more pressure that stretches the delicate labial tissue. Lacerations or episiotomies during a vaginal delivery can heal unevenly and leave unsightly flaps of tissue.

Dr. Galstyan does a detailed evaluation and spends considerable time discussing each patient’s concerns and will decide whether labiaplasty is the best solution for her. Women with other gynecological diseases may not be good candidates for labiaplasty surgery. Overall, the risk of any complication is very low, reported at less than 1%.

During this procedure, performed in a specialized suite and under local anesthesia, excess tissue is trimmed from the labia minora and the edges are sewn back together. Scars are almost invisible and women can return to work in a week or so but complete healing can take up to six weeks.

After many years in the Los Angeles labiaplasty arena, Dr. Galstyan has perfected a procedure that is less invasive and has a faster recovery time. He can provide before and after pictures to help guide the discussion and better meet your expectations.
